2012 – 2020

Sam provided outreach psychological counselling support in primary and high schools, visiting their students on site/premises (students aged between 4 years – 18 years). He worked alongside parents and teaching staff to tailor strategies to keep kids mentally healthy.

In this role he first identified difficulties and then delivered psychological interventions to children and families as defined by model of best practice.

In such a role it is highly important to liaise with internal and external professionals (teaching staff, GPs, faculty) to complete assessments, treatment and to uphold appropriate referrals

Sam employed focused psychological strategies including CBT, Interpersonal therapy, solution focused therapy, psycho-education, relaxation, mindfulness to help the child overcome difficulties

He holds current registrations for working with children, clients eligible for Medicare, VACP, VOCAT support

2011 – 2014

Sam worked for eHeadspace as a youth metal health clinician. In this role he provided supportive single-session counselling and ongoing therapeutic counselling to young people in an online environment (webchat & email). He would undertake online screening assessments with young people and their families. Using email, phone and webchat he offered brief psychological interventions, which often led to referrals and liaising with face-to-face and crisis service providers.

Nov 2008 – Nov 2011

Sam worked for Centrelink as a Job Capacity Assessor, helping people get linked into suitable return-to-work programs. In this role he would undertake an assessment of a person’s current and future capacity to work via interview-based methodology. He delivered Job Capacity Assessment services in line with legislative requirements, and professional codes applicable to APS and ASORC. Through the session, Sam and the client would identify barriers to employment and interventions to address them so that the client could return to work. He would also liaise with other internal and external professionals to complete assessments and make appropriate referrals, specifically to GPs, Employment Services and service staff

November 2012 – 2018

Sam is co-founder (alongside Remy Lindner) of Loosen The Knot.

Loosen the knot was a community based movement designed to teach skills for everyday people to manage everyday stress.

Sam and Remy would run drop-n, gold coin donation relaxation groups, teaching people how to use every-day relaxation and focussing skills to manage everyday stress.
